Oriental Day

On the 23 July the Student Restaurant was transformed into an oriental scene of lanterns and dragons to promote Far-Eastern culture. Traditional food and drink were served amongst the vibrant activities of calligraphy painting and origami which were demonstrated by our students. As well as the indoor activities we were lucky enough to be able to view our own Chinese students in their performance of typical Chinese morning exercises. Further to this, we welcomed Qi China International from Bournemouth University who demonstrated traditional Qi Gong and Thai Chi martial arts. Students were given the opportunity to join in after the demonstration and learn the basics.

SRTA - Digital skills for the ELT classroom

Anglo-Continental’s Southern Regional Teachers’ Association (SRTA) hosted in association with Publisher Macmillan and Pete Sharma Associates (PSA) a workshop on Digital Skills for the English Language Teaching (ELT) Classroom on Saturday 30 May 2009. Events are organised 3 times a year to bring teachers together to attend presentations and workshops on a number of different topics
The day focused on how to integrate traditional classroom teaching with hi-tech resources such as interactive whiteboards, podcasts, blog and wikis. Participants had the chance to analyse the positive and negative aspects of integrating Information Communication Technology and to discover how it could be useful for teachers in lesson preparation and how it could motivate learners. Different examples of classroom activities were demonstrated and participants were encouraged to share their experience in using digital resources.
The SRTA is an association of teachers and professionals that is sponsored by Anglo-Continental, which regularly hosts talks and workshops delivered by leading TEFL authors and methodologists who are leaders in their field. As the SRTA is sponsored by Anglo-Continental, membership to the association and many of the events are free of charge. If you wish to join please visit the website: http://www.anglo-continental.com/en/Secure-Pages/Teacher-Training/registration-teachers.htm to register.
