Owl news Digital Language Laboratoryspacespacespacespacespacespacespacespace

Anglo-Continental is now equipped with a state-of-the-art digital language laboratory. Making use of Melissi Multimedia software, which is used by leading UK universities, it incorporates all the functions of a conventional language laboratory with a host of new exciting possibilities for students and teachers alike.

We are the only language school in Bournemouth and one of the very few in the UK to make use of this modern software. In a bright and comfortable setting, the following functions are just a few of the capabilities of the new laboratory:

arrow Digitally recording commentaries
arrow Recording and listening to telephone conversations
arrow Working with images
arrow Improving pronunciation
arrow Chat messaging service between class members
arrow Watching and adding subtitles to videos

The laboratory has already proved extremely popular with the teachers. Increased enthusiasm amongst students when undertaking reading, writing, listening and speaking tasks has also been noted!

The laboratory can also be used as a traditional multimedia classroom with access to the internet, CD-ROMs allowing the teacher to utilise traditional CALL activities.

Hi, I’m Wiesia Stronias and I have recently taken the position of Marketing Assistant at Anglo-Continental. I will be assisting senior members of the Marketing Department in promoting our courses to achieve an increase in the level of student enrolments from the Eastern European and Western European markets. I am familiar with the educational environment as I have previously worked as a Course Coordinator and as a Teacher. I can speak both the Polish and Russian languages.

I’m looking forward to working together with the team at Anglo-Continental.

Owl news 30 Years as a Host Family for Anglo-Continental

Anglo-Continental would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Tanya Van Heyningen for hosting its students for 30 years! Tanya has been a caring, kind and hospitable host family to our students and we want to thank her for all her hard work over the years. She has always provided the best standard of accommodation for our students and she does her utmost to ensure the students get the most out of their stay in England. Tanya has kept a visitors book since she first started taking students in 1979.

She recently hosted two Turkish students, Aysenur and Hacer, who wrote this thank you note, "We stayed in your lovely house for a long time. We shared lots of things. You are a really nice host family and we want to say to you THANK YOU VERY MUCH for everything! Especially your special attention of cooking meals for us. You are very kind, tolerant and understanding. We were so satisfied with staying here. We will miss you and also we will miss your delicious yoghurt! We are very happy to meet you."

“Привет!” That’s ‘Hello’ in Russian, one of the 5 languages I happen to speak. My name is Alexander Fitsner.  I very recently joined Anglo-Continental as a Business Development Coordinator for Russian speaking market.

Having successfully worked in IT, I am happy to move on to new challenges in a new industry and I am sure that support from experienced coordinators and my educational background will help me to increase the amount of students from Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.

I’m looking forward to meeting you all.
