Over the past few months Anglo-Continental has hosted the following events which have been enjoyed by students, staff and host families:
Pancake afternoon including a pancake relay race.
Pan Arab Day - A selection of arabic sweets, arabic coffee and mint tea were served. The students organised a
spectacular Pan Arab exhibition and demonstrated traditional dancing.
Easter Egg Hunt - Students joined in the Easter Egg Hunt and won lots of chocolate easter eggs!
Anglo-Continental is now a member of RALSA (Recognised Accredited Language Schools Association) which is an association of British Council accredited language schools located in and around Bournemouth. The Association operates as a committee to provide a forum for members to discuss matters of educational and professional interest.
Anglo-Continental is also now a member of IEF (International Education Forum). The International Education Forum was established to promote the Bournemouth and Poole area as a world-class centre for excellence in international education. The educational organisations involved in IEF are Bournemouth University, the Arts Institute at Bournemouth, the Bournemouth and Poole College, Accredited English Language Schools and White House Guardianships (which offers a placement service into local private and state-run high schools).
Education providers must now be licensed to sponsor international students.
Under the student tier of the UK Border Agency's new points-based immigration system, students from outside the European Economic Area studying in the UK can only apply to education providers licensed by the UK Border Agency. Anglo-Continental is a license holder.

CELTA Graduates
After 2 successful full-time CELTA courses, just under 20 newly qualified English language teachers have graduated from Anglo-Continental's teacher training department. These students have enjoyed good pass rates with over 10% passing with an A Grade.
The majority of students say that they find the intensive course very hard work, but enjoyable and rewarding. With our current part-time course and another full-time course due to finish in June, the department is working hard to supply the continuing demand for motivated, skilled and enthusiastic language teachers.
Our new graduates are keen to start work as soon as possible. Please contact Jill Manwaring, Teacher Training Course Coordinator for the contact details of recent CELTA graduates.

SRTA Event - Sam McCarter

The Southern Regional Teachers' Association(SRTA) was delighted to welcome the author Sam McCarter in conjunction with Macmillan on Thursday 12 February 2009. Sam's talk covered various techniques to motivate students studying IELTS at different levels and to make studying more interesting. All four main skills and a selection of sub-skills were looked at as well as ways to blend the skills together and make them relevant to the students. After his talk there was a Q&A session.
James Hannam - Business Development Coordinator

"My name is James Hannam and I'm a new recruit at Anglo-Continental! I am working as the Business Development Coordinator for Spain and Latin America. I am from the south west of England but have lived in France and Spain during my student years. Now I'm a Bournemouth resident and loving it! The multiculturalism and buzz of an exciting town, the long sandy beaches. Now I understand why so many students choose Bournemouth as their place to study!
I am really looking forward to getting to know the area, its people and of course the students that come to Anglo-Continental over the coming months."
